ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Works safely and always maintains a safe work environment. Takes responsibility for quality of work by performing all duties thoroughly and effectively with conformance to standards, quality systems, and established processes. Produces production parts utilizing various manual and CNC machining equipment. Maintains specifications by observing machine processes; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting and replacing worn tools. Prepares and verifies settings by measuring positions, performing first-run part checks, and adjusting settings as required. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads. Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs. Sets-up and operates Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) Monitors scrap to verify yields. Performs and ensures machine and equipment preventative maintenance. Contributes to the housekeeping and 5s activity in the area. Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill. Facilitates continuous improvement through employee involvement. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GED equivalent required. 5+ years of experience as a CNC machinist or an equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to read and understand English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, managers, clients, and customers. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
